Available Clans/Families

Jeweled Championships is set in the year 529, not modern Rokugan. As such, several differences in Clans and Families exist. If a family or Clan is not mentioned here you can ask, but it likely does not exist.

Great Clans:

Crab: Toritaka Family does not yet exist.

Crane: As normal

Dragon: The Agasha have not yet defected to the Phoenix. Characters use the Agasha Trait Bonus and School, and Technique and possess the Agasha Family Name.

Lion: As normal

Phoenix: Agasha are instead playable as part of the Dragon Clan as per above.

Scorpion: Kuroiban do not yet exist. They are in the process of being created.

Spider: The Spider Clan does not yet exist, and are wholly unplayable.

Unicorn: The Ki-Rin have not returned from their travels in the Burning Sands, and are therefore unplayable.


Minor Clans:

Snake: This Clan was wiped out a little over a hundred years before this game is set, and are therefore unplayable.

Bat, Wasp, Oriole, Ox, Hare, Dragonfly, and Falcon: These clans have not yet come into existence.

Boar: Though most have been eliminated, there were a few that were out in the empire. This can be chosen, but will require a backstory to explain it. And none of the Sensei survived, so most should be created as clan ronin. Starting koku will be 1 koku.

Badger: Exists as per the Core book

Centipede: Separate from the Mantis Clan. Characters use the Moshi Family Name, Trait bonus, and School.

Fox: Separate from the Mantis Clan. Characters use the Kitsune Family Name, Trait bonus (willpower), and School.

Mantis: The Mantis are currently a Minor Clan. Characters do not possess a Family Name but those over 16 years of age gain a +1 Willpower due to having been born with the Gusai family name. If they are 16 or younger, they would instead get 10xp, similar to ronin characters. The Moshi and Kitsune Families exist separately as the Centipede and Fox Clans respectively. The Wasp do not yet exist and neither does the Tsuruchi School. The Mantis are restricted to 3 ranks in the Yoritomo Bushi school, as the fourth has not yet been developed. Any day now.

Sparrow: Exists as per the Core book

Tortoise: Exists as per the Core book


Imperials:

Otomo, Miya and Seppun: As Normal


Brotherhood of Shinsei:

Certain orders may not exist, but there may be mechanical equivalents. Please ask, if you wish to play a unique or obscure order. The Order of the Five Rings is available.


Ronin:

Certain ronin groups may not exist, but there may be mechanical equivalents. Please ask, if you wish your character to be a part of a specific group. The Hawk clan path is available for play.
