Alchemy and Poison Formulas.

Brother of Air
Level 1 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: Each raise will increase the duration by 5 rounds; one raise to increase TN penalty by +5; two raises to increase level of spell affected.
For the duration of the potion, minor Air kami are repulsed by the consumer. This means that all level 1 air spells that are attempting to affect them are +5 TN. As this formula requires crushed pure Crystal, it cannot be crafted by anyone with the Shadowlands Taint, or with Shadow points.

Brother of Earth
Level 1 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: Two raises will allow for creation of a second dose; one raise to increase TN penalty by +5; two raises to increase level of spell affected.
For the duration of the potion, minor Earth kami are repulsed by the consumer. This means that all level 1 earth spells that are attempting to affect them are +5 TN. As this formula requires crushed Jade, it cannot be crafted by anyone with any points of Shadowlands Taint or Shadow points.

Brother of Water
Level 1 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: One raise to allow positive spells through; one raise to increase TN penalty by +5; two raises to increase level of spell affected.
For the duration of this potion, minor Water kami are repulsed by the consumer. This means that all level 1 water spells that are attempting to affect them are +5 TN. As this potion requires crushed Pure Pearls, it cannot be crafted by anyone with the Shadowlands Taint, or Shadow points.

Flash Paper
Level 1 formula.
Type: Item.
Duration: Permanent.
Raises: Each raise creates an additional paper.
This formula creates 2 sheets of flash paper. Each sheet is thin rice paper that will ignite into a flame with only a little bit of friction. With only a couple fingers running a across it briskly, the sheet bursts into flame, and completely burns away by the end of the next round. It deals 1 point of damage to whatever it is touching. If thrust into the face of anything with eyes, they must make a Reflexes TN 10-20 (depending on circumstances) or become blinded for 3 rounds.

Shosuro's Mask
Level 1 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 9 hours (3 timeslots).
Raises: Each raise increases TN penalty by 2.
This formula creates a poison that causes simple pain to the imbiber. For the duration, all TNs they are attempting are increased by 2. Creation of this is a use of a low skill. Can enter the body by any means; most often used to coat blades with it.

Sleeping Fire
Level 1 formula.
Type: Liquid.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: Each raise brews an additional dose.
This formula creates a thin liquid which may be spread on any surface. Once it is placed, it will react to any change in temperature, like the touch of a hand, or even a breath blown on it. Once it ignites, it will deal 1k1 damage each round to any person or wood that it is touching while burning.

Smoke
Level 1 formula.
Type: Item.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: One raise to increase duration by 1 round; one raise to increase area by 5 foot radius; one raise to increase TN to traverse by 5.
This item may be tossed down to create a 5 foot radius area filled with putrid smoke (in a number of colors). Those that enter it are blinded, and must make a Stamina TN 10 roll or be driven back out. Creating this item is a use of a low skill.

Soshi's Blessing
Level 1 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 24 hours.
Raises: You may raise 3 times to increase the duration of the formula to 48 hours.
The imbiber does not regain Void from rest or meditation, or a tea ceremony they perform, while under the effects of this poison. Creating this is a use of a low skill. Must be consumed. Tastes slightly like apples.

Bayushi's Bane
Level 2 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Raises: For each 2 raises, increase the level of poison it affects.
The drinker of this potion instantly extinguishes a minor poison (level 1 poison), ending it's effects.

Brother of Fire
Level 2 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: One raise to increase duration by 5 rounds; two raises to create a second dose; one raise to increase TN penalty by +5; two raises to increase level of spell affected.
For the duration of this potion, minor Fire kami are repulsed by the consumer. This means that all level 1 fire spells that are attempting to affect them are +10 TN. As this formula requires crushed pure Obsidian, it cannot be crafted by anyone with Shadow points or the Shadowlands Taint.

Earth's Hammer
Level 2 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: 1 raise to increase duration by 5 rounds, any number of times.
For the duration of the potion, the one that consumed it gains +1 Strength. This will not increase their Water Ring.

Kakita's Bane
Level 2 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 1 hour.
Raises: One raise to increase duration by one hour.
This poison, considered particularly vile by all duelists, slows one down. The imbiber has their Reflexes reduced by 1 for the duration. Creation of this is use of a low skill. Anyone found in possession of this during the Emerald Championships is summarily executed. May enter the body by any means.

Lion's Heart
Level 2 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: Each raise increases the duration by 1 round.
For the duration, the imbiber adds their honor to their Hit roll.

Liquid Smoke
Level 2 formula.
Type: Liquid.
Duration: 10 minutes once ignited.
Raises: 1 Raise for each additional dose; one raise to increase Stamina TN by 5.
This formula creates a thick, gummy liquid that can be ignited to produce billowing clouds of smoke. Anyone that wishes to pass through the smoke must make a Stamina TN 10 roll or be forced back coughing and crying. Anyone that fails the roll will lose their next complex action possibility. Scorpions gain a +2 static bonus on rolls to create this.

Soshi's Mask
Level 2 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 1 hour.
Raises: 1 raise for each additional hour; 3 raises to increase Awareness lowering by 2.
This formula causes the imbiber's Awareness to drop by 1, to a minimum of 1, for the duration. Creating this is a use of a low skill. Must be consumed. Most often administered by tea. Makes the tea taste slightly rancid.

Crane's Tongue
Level 3 formula
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: Each raise increases duration by 5 rounds; 2 Raises to increase Awareness increase by 2.
For the duration of this potion, increase the consumer's Awareness by 1. This will not increase their Air Ring.

Dragon's Breath
Level 3 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: Instant.
Raises: Each raise increases Damage by 1k0.
The drinker immediately spews forth a fiery stream at the target. It does 3k3 damage to the target, but also 1k1 to the one that drinks it. The damage increase applies to both damage rolls. You must take the highest die in damage for the second roll, but may choose for the first.

Health
Level 3 formula
Type: Potion.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Raises: None.
The one that consumes this potion instantly heals 1 entire wound rank. Essentially remove all wounds from the lowest wound rank. A person must wait 24 hours after taking this before it will be effective again.

Lion's Roar
Level 3 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: None.
The one that consumes the potion adds their honor to all damage rolls for the duration of the potion.

Matsu's Bane
Level 3 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 24 hours.
Raises: 2 raises for each additional dose made.
For the duration, the imbiber sees things with different eyes. All effects that involve the person's honor count the honor as half (rounded down) of it's real amount. Creation of this is use of a low skill. Must be consumed via mouth. Tastes slightly sour.

Vitality
Level 3 formula
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: 1 raise to increase duration by 5 rounds.
For the duration of the potion's effect, raise the consumer's Stamina or Willpower by 1. This does not increase the consumer's Earth Ring. The Alchemist must decide when brewing which trait will be affected.

Yogo's Bane
Level 3 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 24 hours.
Raises: One raise to increase duration by 6 hours; one raise to increase TN penalty by 5.
For the duration of this poison, the one that drank it is slightly separated from the kami. Any shugenja that drinks it has all TNs for spellcasting increased by 5 for the duration. Creation of this is a use of a low skill. Must enter the body by the mouth. Dulls the taste of anything it is in.

Bayushi's Mask
Level 4 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 6 hours.
Raises: None.
For the duration of this formula, the imbiber has all traits lowered by 1. This will not lower a Ring, or lower a trait below 1. Creation is use of a low skill. Must enter the body via the mouth. Tastes 'sharp'.

Earth's Anvil
Level 4 formula.
Type: Potion.
Duration: 5 rounds.
Raises: Each raise increases the duration by 1 round.
For the duration of the potion, the imbiber may ignore all effects of Wounds while above the level of "Down".

Liquid Fire
Level 4 formula.
Type: Liquid.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Raises: 1 raise creates an additional dose; 1 raise to increase damage by 1k0.
Only the insane would drink Liquid Fire. It is instead thrown at an enemy (Athletics/Agility). When it hits, it does 2k2 (plus 1k0 for each applicable raise) damage to the person or place it hit. Each subsequent round, it does 1k1 (plus 1k0 for each applicable raise), until washed off or smothered (usually in sand). That is a Complex action. Anyone within 5 feet must make a Reflexes TN 10 roll, or get splashed, and take the same damage.
Anyone that drinks it takes 3k3 (plus raises) damage, plus 2k2 damage each additional round, until the substance is removed, or their body is destroyed by it.

Bayushi's Anger
Level 5 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: 1 hour.
Raises: 1 raise to increase duration by 1 hour; 2 raises to lower Void by an additional 1.
For the duration, the imbiber's Void is lowered by 1. Creation is use of a low skill. This may enter the body by any means.

Poluvora
Level 5 formula
Type: Powder.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Raises: You may raise twice to make an additional dose; you may raise 4 times to stabilize it; 1 raise to increase damage by 1k0.
This creates poluvora, an early version of black powder. It is extremely unstable, and if not ignited before the time the formula is active, it will explode at the end of it's time, unless it has been stabilized. If it has been stabilized, it is an additional Craft: Alchemy roll, with a Free Raise granted, to reactivate it. It is the component used for the Agasha fireworks, superior to the Crane and Phoenix fireworks.

When it explodes, it does 4k4 damage to whatever it explodes on.

Fauntei Shi
Level 6 formula.
Type: Poison.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Raises: None.
The imbiber must make a Stamina TN equal to the crafting roll, or immediately die. Creation is use of a low skill. This must enter the body by any means.
