Order of the Five Rings.

• Devotion: Shintao
• Benefit: +1 Awareness
• Starting Honor: 4.0
• Skills: Courtier, Defense, Etiquette, Jiujutsu, Lore: Elements, Lore: Theology (Shintao), Meditation.

Cracks Within the Elements.
Monks of the Order of the Five Rings excel at seeking out the imbalances within others and exploiting them to their own advantage. Whenever you are making an attack roll, or a Social Skill Roll against a mortal opponent, you gain a bonus to the roll equal to twice the difference between your opponent's highest and lowest Rings.

Amaku's Acolytes.

This is an entry level technique, that replaces the Isawa Shugenja technique.

• Benefit: +1 Willpower.
• Skills: Calligraphy, Courtier or Spellcraft your choice, Divination, Lore: Elements (Void), Lore: Theology, Meditation, any one high skill.
• Honor: 5.5
• Outfit: Robes, Wakizashi, any one weapon, scroll satchel, traveling pack, 5 koku.
• Affinity/Deficiency: None. Instead, the Ishiken-do advantage costs you 2 less XP, and the Touch of the Void advantage gives you 1 additional XP.

Amaku's Training.
The ishiken has taken a vow to abstain from all non-Void spells, much as the Master of Void has. As a result, he has received special training which grants him the following powers: You may cast only Void spells, or Commune, Sense, and Summon. You have spell scrolls for all spells you can cast in the Void Element. Each day, you may cast each void spell once. You may, additionally, cast additional spells equal to your Void rank. This replaces the normal count of spells cast. Void versatility will have no effect on this.

You may still cast the spells of other elements, but doing so other than Sense, Summon, or Commune, and getting found out by anyone will result in either the 'Infamous' disadvantage, and the inability to progress in this school, or the blackmail disadvantage. You do not start with any other spell scrolls but Sense, Summon, Commune, and Void spells.

The default Ronin school from Secrets of the Empire, pg 236, is a default school for any bushi that wishes. Perhaps your family did not have the influence to get you trained at the Families premier dojo, so you picked up what you could. Perhaps you just didn't fit with the Families training, but there was one sensei that knew another path for you. You were sent to another clan to train as part of a hostage deal, now finished; not wanting to teach you their techniques, you were taught this instead.

Mantis Shugenja.

I am going to allow Mantis Shugenja this game. We are limiting the effects of their power to work for 1 timeslot, then the natural patterns reassert themselves (With occasional allowances for oddities). Realize - you are at the Championships, and the Seppun Hidden Guard keep a tight watch on that sort of thing...

Tattooed Men.

Due to the power of the Dragon clan's Tattooed Men's Tattoos, each may only be used a number of times per day equal to the character's Void plus school rank.

We will be amending the Hawk Purist Path found in the IH 2 source book and be replacing it with two Hawk schools that are beginning to be taught at the Dojos of the two Hawk provinces.

Hawk Purist.
Bushi

• Technique Rank: 1
• Benefit: +1 Awareness
• Skills: Athletics, Defense, Hunting, Jiujutsu, Kenjutsu, Kyujutsu, any one Skill.
• Starting Honor: 3.5
• Outfit: As per True Ronin or Clan Ronin as appropriate (L5R 4th Edition core Rulebook, pg 234) plus one sturdy black outfit.

Grace From the Shadows.
The people who fancy themselves as members of the Hawk Clan rely on a mix of popular opinion, bluff, and intimidation to make themselves part of a greater movement and gain favor with others. Any time you are speaking with another person you may asset your membership in the "Hawk Clan" and try to convince him to treat you with corresponding respect. This is a Contested roll (and is a complex action, if actions matter); You roll Sincerity/Air, they may roll Etiquette/Awareness. If you succeed in the roll, your opponent will treat you as if your status is one greater than it is. Thus, a normal status 0 ronin will be treated as though he is status 1. With NPCs in Otosan Uchi, it is a straight roll, though personal biases may apply.

The Hawk's Flurry.
The Hawk has learned to 'flap his wings', certain actions that will hide his next strike. After you succeed at a Feint, on the next attack against that foe, gain +2k0 on your next attack roll; and +3 to damage for each level of difference between your perceived Status and their's.

The Flurry's Shadows.
The moves you have learned allow you to further disorient the opponent, with the differing techniques suggesting that you can help yourself, or distract your opponent more. As a Free action, once per opponent per skirmish, you may attempt to distract the opposing bushi with a Sincerity(Deceit)/Air roll versus their Investigation/Perception. If you succeed, gain +0k1 on your next damage roll against them, or they roll -0k1 against you, your choice. You may only have 1 instance of this technique operative at any moment.

Hawk Purist.
Courtier

• Technique Rank: 1
• Benefit: +1 Reflexes
• Skills: Athletics, Defense, Hunting, Courtier, Sincerity, Kyujutsu, any one Skill.
• Starting Honor: 3.5
• Outfit: As per True Ronin or Clan Ronin as appropriate (L5R 4th Edition core Rulebook, pg 234) plus one sturdy black outfit.

The Pale Shadow.
With the examples that have been set by their leadership, the nascent Courtiers of the Hawk have learned both to be assertive, and almost aggressive in their words and actions. Hopefully not too much so, but they are not shrinking lilies. When rolling Sincerity against an opponent, gain a FR for each rank of status they think you have beyond your actual status rank.

The Shadow's of the Wings.
The Courtier has learned to use their own self-belief to power their words. You may add your Sincerity skill rank as a static bonus to all social rolls that don't involve communicating with the kami.
